Students who have the day off from school on Monday can see the movie "Selma" for free.

Celebration! Cinema announced Thursday that any student with a valid student ID can see the movie free of charge on Martin Luther King, Jr., Day, on Monday (Jan. 19).

"Selma" highlights the three months in 1965 when the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., led a campaign to secure equal voting rights and the march from Selma, Ala., to Montgomery, Ala.

The movie today garnered a Best Picture nomination for the Academy Awards. Its theme song "Glory," by John Legend and Common, gained an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song and it won a Golden Globe for Best Original Song from a Motion Picture.

Emily Loeks, director of community affairs for Celebration! Cinema, said in a statement:

We are proud to be in the business of telling stories and this movie tells an important one. There is a reason that our nation pauses to recognize the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. each year. The work is ongoing. We have an opportunity with the movie 'Selma' to deepen understanding and conversation. We want students to see this movie!

Free student tickets will be available exclusively at the box office of all first run Celebration! Cinema locations for all show times of Selma on Jan. 19. Students must present a valid ID.
