Steve Rannazzisi, comedian and actor best known for portraying Kevin on the hit TV series The League, has admitted to lying about being in the World Trade Center during the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Rannazzisi had previously described, in great detail, what floor he was on that day, how he felt afterward, and even claimed that he was there working for Merrill Lynch (who has no record of his employment).

Back in 2009, in an interview with Marc Maron, Rannazzisi claimed to have been working on the 54th floor of Tower Two, and in detail described what happened from his point of view that day.

After being confronted with evidence to the contrary this week, Rannazzisi released a statement:

It was profoundly disrespectful to those who perished and those who lost loved ones. The stupidity and guilt I have felt for many years has not abated. It was an early taste of having a public persona, and I made a terrible mistake. All I can ask is for forgiveness.

He then took to Twitter Wednesday morning to say more:

It's unclear how this will affect the final season of The League currently airing on FXX or Rannazzisi's current sponsorship agreement with Buffalo Wild Wings.

Buffalo Wild Wings did release a statement Tuesday night, according to the New York Times, saying:

We are disappointed to learn of Steve’s misrepresentations regarding the events of September 11, 2001. We are currently re-evaluating our relationship with Steve pending a review of all the facts.

FXX has yet to make a statement at this time.
