After nine years, Stephen Colbert bid adieu to his Comedy Central late-night political satire show, ‘The Colbert Report,’ as well as his character of the same name -- well, kind of.

After a bit where he kills Grimmy -- a.k.a. Death -- Colbert revels in his newfound immortality, throws out his bucket list and says goodnight to the Colbert Nation one last time with a singalong of Vera Lynn’s ‘We’ll Meet Again.’ First joined by his predecessor Jon Stewart, and Randy Newman on piano, the camera quickly pans out on a countless number of musicians, actors, politicians, news anchors and more.

R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe returned from the Colbert yard sale on Wednesday’s episode (Dec. 17), along with Willie Nelson, Cyndi Lauper, Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy, Peter Frampton, President Bill Clinton, James Franco, Bryan Cranston, Jeff Daniels, Katie Couric and Charlie Rose -- just to name a few. You can watch the massive send-off in the clip above.

Colbert will be leaving his show on Comedy Central to take over David Letterman’s ‘Late Show’ slot on CBS beginning in September 2015.
