Before rocking The Stache with Trapt Tuesday night, the guys from Sons of Texas stopped by the WGRD studios!

They talked with me about touring, their debut album, Baptized in the Rio Grande, and their home state, which is-- you guessed it!-- Texas!

It's been a big year for Sons of Texas! Their debut album came out in March and it's their first time touring together. Despite all the firsts, the guys have known each other for years, growing up together in McAllen, Texas.

Lead singer Mark Morales talked about how Sons of Texas got together as a band:

We all played in different bands... We've all known each other for ten plus years. I started my very first band with the two brothers down there Nick and Mike. I was about 16, they were about 14 and 13, I believe, and that was my first time on stage doing some local, high school, battle of the bands stuff... then we all went different directions... It just so happened a couple years ago... All our previous bands had disbanded and we just got together and made this happen. And here we are, man."

In terms of how the road is treating them, bassist Nick Villareal said:

It's really cool. It's definitely a learning process. There's so much to take in, especially now that we're a new band and we're kind of doing everything ourselves. We don't really have much crew, we don't have a road manager...We handle everything ourselves... It's pretty cool. It's kinda hard (laughs) But we're learning and it's getting easier as we go on."

Guitarist Jes De Hoyos talked about the new album, Baptized in the Rio Grande, about what it says about their lives and where they are from:

"I think it brings a culture from where we're from-- a little bit of this a little bit of that. That's what we wanted to do when we went into the writing process. We wanted to have a nice a plate for people to pick off. You know, you like metal, you like blues, you like rock, whatever it is, there's something for you to take off [the album]. So we wanted to combine all that in one record and hope for the best."

Check out more of the interview above to hear what the guys say their favorite songs to play live are, the state they've enjoyed the most on tour, and how GRD is (literally) the coolest radio station they've visited!
