An audience of children and parents out for a day of family fun at a movie theater in California were recently horrified to watch the red-band trailer of Seth Rogen‘s Sausage Party, which played before a screening of Finding Dory.

Both films are animated, however the enchanting, PG-rated story of a loveable blue tang fish and her search for her long-lost parents is a far cry from the dark tale of a sausage who discovers that the destiny of food items in a grocery store is to be eaten alive by humans.

Sausage Party is scheduled to be released into theaters on August 12, and is R-rated due to its expletive language and violent content. It was therefore extremely inappropriate for the trailer to be shown to such a young audience.

According to Yahoo, Walter Eichinger, the vice president of Brenden Concord operations, was obliged to publicly apologize for the debacle:

Playing that trailer was a one-time, honest mistake by a theatre manager moving screens around in an effort to accommodate several large, last-minute groups wanting to see Dory.”

He explained the error by adding:

Our movies are now started and stopped by computer and a click of a mouse. We moved a couple of screens to larger houses to accommodate some walk-up groups over a very, very busy Dory weekend. In the rush one hardworking manager clicked the wrong movie.

In contrast, Rogen was entertained by the whole incident, as revealed by a tweet in which he said that the erroneous showing of the trailer “made my day.”
