The Highlands Golf Course on Grand Rapids West Side has been sold to a local developer, WZZM-13 reports.

The course, just off of Leonard Street, is 108 years old. 

Back in the1980s and 90s The Highlands Golf Course was was home to the Senior PGA tournament. Eventually the course was purchased by The Elks, who then sold it to Steve Scheuermann

Scheuermann said,

 "The golf industry has changed. It’s been challenging over the years. There’s too many golf courses, too."

He is now selling the course to Third Coast Development, a Grand Rapids company with several projects on Michigan Street.

As of the now, the golf course will operate through the end of the year while plans are developed.

According to WZZM-13, golfers out at the course on Tuesday speculated that the course will be turned into residential development.
