Erik Cross, just 16, was found dead by his father near their home in Vicksburg June of 1983. Initially it was reported as a hit and run accident. Further investigation showed that Erik Cross' death may have been intentional. Some of Erik's family remained in the area, often hearing rumors and tips alleging that those responsible for Cross's death conspired to make it look like a hit and run to hide the teen's murder.

After decades, in the fall of 2017, then Under Sheriff Paul Matyas requested arrest warrants for murder for five suspects believed to be connected to Cross’ death. It was one of Matyas last acts as Kalamazoo County Under Sheriff. Cross' family thought they would finally see justice for the teens death. Now more than a year later the Kalamazoo Prosecutors Office still has failed to grant the requests for warrants.

The friends and family are now taking a billboard to different areas of the state in hopes of gaining the attention and help of Michigan's Attorney General Bill Schuette. They say that perhaps Attorney General Shuette could help the decades old cold case move forward.
