Seattle’s Richard Sherman Explains 49er Incident and Postgame Comments

The end of the Seattle Seahawks/ San Francisco 49ers game on Sunday night was a finish most football fans hope for in a game so close between two teams who are so good. An interception by Seattle cornerback Richard Sherman in the end zone ended the game, giving Seattle a 23-17 win sending the Seahawks to the Super Bowl.

But what happened after that interception seems to be all that people are talking about, and with good reason.

An altercation between Sherman and 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree drew flags and an unsportsmanlike conduct call after the last seconds were off of the clock. And then there was Sherman’s interview with Fox-TV’s Erin Andrews… Today, Sherman is speaking out about that interview, and trying to set the record straight.

In a column for Sports Illustrated, Sherman writes about the history of his relationship with Crabtree as well as Sunday night.

It was loud, it was in the moment, and it was just a small part of the person I am. I don’t want to be a villain, because I’m not a villainous person.

Sherman stresses that he is not a bad person, that there is more to this story and that he feels that he – and his team – deserve to go to the Super Bowl.

Sherman went on to talk about the backlash he is experiencing after his outburst,

People find it easy to take shots on Twitter, and to use racial slurs and bullying language far worse than what you’ll see from me. It’s sad and somewhat unbelievable to me that the world is still this way, but it is. I can handle it.

Sherman, as it turns out, had plenty to say about the game, his interview, the Super Bowl, the backlash of his interview and the rumors that Seahawks fans threw food and trash at injured 49ers player Navorro Bowman as he was carted off of the field.
