A law that the porn industry has opposed for years is a reality. Male adult film actors will now have to wear condoms while getting it on with their female co-stars.

According to NME, the law was signed earlier this week by Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. The requirement of condom use in porn films has been advocated by health officials for quite some time but no official law was passed up to this point.

The AIDS Healthcare Foundation was ecstatic about the news, stating the risk of spreading HIV and other sexually transmitted infections has been greatly reduced and protects performers from life-threatening consequences. The advocacy group intends to have similar laws passed throughout the U.S.

"The tide of history here is pretty clear, and we're not going to stop," AIDS Healthcare president Michael Weinstein said.

Leaders in the porn industry may move their production outside of the city limits to avoid the law. Filmmakers say that use of condoms in porn are not as popular and could hurt profits. An estimated 90% of adult films are produced in Los Angeles.
