Gearing up to rock The Intersection with Red Sun Rising and We Came As Romans on Wednesday Oct. 16, All That Remains frontman Philip Labonte checked in with GRD!

Phil talked about the new album, what his favorite All That Remains albums are, being a Taylor Swift fan, bathroom selfies, and more with WGRD!

To commemorate being back on the road for the Hard Drive Live Fallout Tour, Phil had  posted a photo to Facebook of what appeared to be a gas station bathroom:

"We hadn't been on tour all summer, so it was kind of like, oh, we're back on tour. So here's the glamourous life-- that's the place I did my business in the morning, the first morning being back on tour [laughs]."

I thanked him for sharing that tidbit.

All That Remains' new album The Order Of Things was released in February. About the record, Phil said,

"It was produced by Josh Wilbur, and this was the first time we worked with him...What was one of the things that, was at least my favorite experience, was that he looked at it from really a song perspective. He's worked with a lot of heavy bands, he's worked with Gojira, he's worked with Lamb of God, but he's also done a lot of stuff with pop artists, he's worked on stuff for Pink... So he doesn't approach writing songs as he's trying to write a heavy song or a metal song, he approaches it as I'm trying to write a good song. I've said this before to a lot of people--  it doesn't really matter if your songs are this enough or that enough, except for are they good enough?... You can take a country song that some dude in Nashville wrote... and it goes to the top of the country charts. Then, six months later, an R&B person will go ahead and perform the song and it goes to the top of the R&B charts, because the song is good... I think that holds true for any type of genre... That's why, there's a band called, I Prevail, that covered [Taylor Swift's] Blank Space, and it came out pretty cool, because it's a good song."

Phil was previously quoted as saying The Order of Things is a "much better" album than 2012's A War You Cannot Win, which he'd said "sucked". About this, Phil said,

"I'm not the kind of guy that minces words, and you know, I'm just like, that's not my favorite one. Probably this one, or For We Are Many are my favorite All That Remains records. And there's nothing wrong with saying- Hey, this isn't my favorite one."

Phil on being a fan of pop music:

"I'm a big, good-song fan. From my perspective, good songs tend to be pop songs, whether they are pop country, or dance songs, or whatever. They're good songs for a reason, people like them for a reason. I'm a huge Taylor Swift fan. I think I just really dig well-crafted, short songs. I'm not into big, long, drawn-out, self-indulgent songs. And I'm not knocking that kind of stuff or people that like it but for me personally I like something that gets to the point and grabs you."

About the song "For You", Phil said,

"I'm married and my wife has deployed to Iraq twice and Afghanistan once so, it's kind of a reflection on how difficult those things can be."
