People Are Unhappy with the Fantasic Four Movie – But Maybe for the Wrong Reasons

So, I watched the new Fantastic Four movie today, and I've seen some reviews and a lot of criticism on this film. It's getting destroyed in the media. But maybe people are holding it to a standard that has been set by better comic heroes.

Is the movie amazing? Maybe not, but it's not completely horrible, either. The movie sets up the characters better than the previous F4 movies, in a real way, growing their group, and setting up the accident that gives them their powers in a more realistic way.

Is the movie slow? A little, but an origin story for these guys has to explain a lot, since there's four of them. How'd they get together? Why does Doom go bad? How does the non-science guy get into the thing with them to become The Thing?

Is the ending weak? Maybe a little, but is that the movie's fault, or the problem with the characters created originally? I'm going to say something probably a bit heretical.

Their powers are dumb.

Really. Stretchy-man, Invisible Girl who never uses her power to go sneak peeks at peen in the locker room, the rock-guy, and the dude who's always on fire? These aren't exactly great powers to go up against Dr. Doom, are they?

Every time they need to win a battle, Richards has to create some device to help them stop whatever terror is out there. Why? Because their powers are garbage.

That's why the endings always leave us a bit empty, since the idea of the four of them coming together is a nice, their powers don't give us any satisfying sense of honesty.

Could those four have beaten Doom in this new movie. Probably not, seeing the powers he displayed. But is that the movie's fault, or the basic premise of the characters themselves?

Basically, what I'm saying is...don't worry about all that crap. If you like comic book movies, go see it, have a few laughs, watch some stuff blow up, and just enjoy some escapism. Stop overanalyzing every single movie out there. Some movies are just meant to be watched and enjoyed, and aren't meant to make you reevaluate your entire existence.

Sometimes things can just be fun. Just let things be fun.
