Paramore’s Hayley Williams Dedicates ‘Last Hope’ to Robin Williams

Earlier this past week, Paramore performed in Denver, a city they’ve been playing for the last decade. On Aug. 12, though, their show meant a little more to the trio as it was the day after acclaimed actor and comedian Robin Williams died. Ahead of their performance of ‘Last Hope,’ frontwoman Hayley Williams gave a passionate speech about her own struggles, eventually dedicating the song to Williams. You can watch the tribute in the video above.

“We’ve been through a lot,” Williams told the crowd at Red Rocks Amphitheater. “But I don’t think you have to be in a band to get that … there was a point when we released the new record … that this song sort of spilled out of us and I realize how sad we had been.”

She goes on, “It was very scary actually, it was very depressing. This song happened and sort of a light came on … I’m part of something. We, the three of us, are a part of something.”

Always a band to keep their fans in mind, Williams didn’t stop there. “Before you leave tonight, you, being here tonight, listening to any of your favorite bands, writing songs yourself … you’re a part of something,” she says. “It goes on way longer than any of us will be alive. You are part of something, please know that.”

And with that, Williams wrapped up her speech with a simple salute: “This song goes out to Robin Williams.”
