Legendary drummer, co-founder of Pantera, and member of HELLYEAH, Vinnie Paul has passed away at 54.

Billboard reports that a representative has confirmed Paul's death. A cause of death has not been released at this time.

A statement on Pantera's Facebook page reads,

"Vincent Paul Abbott aka Vinnie Paul has passed away, Paul is best known for his work as the drummer in the bands Pantera and Hellyeah. No further details are available at this time. The family requests you please respect their privacy during this time."

Paul and his brother Dimebag Darrell formed Pantera in 1981. After the dissolution of the band, the brothers created Damage Plan. Damage Plan was playing a show on Dec. 8, 2004, in Columbus Ohio when Dimebag Darrell was shot and killed on stage.

In 2006, Paul became a member of HELLYEAH, along with members of Mudvayne and Nothingface.

Grand Rapids has had the pleasure of seeing HELLYEAH in town several times the past few years. You can watch videos from their recent shows here.

Ahead of their visit last July, we got to talk over the phone with Vinnie Paul. The interview, which was such and honor and so much fun, is also below. We are are so sad to hear about Vinnie's passing.
