When Guitar Hero Ruled the World … and Then Vanished

Most people today still know about the juggernaut known as Guitar Hero.

It was a game where you and your friends picked up plastic instruments that had multi-colored buttons on it and pressed them to a rythem. It was fun -- a lot of fun!

Guitar Hero was about battling friends to who could get the highest score to awesome songs from Rob Zombie, Avenged Sevenfold, Buckethead and more!

Then, it all vanished.

Games to Try Before You Die: Zombies Ate My Neighbors (SNES, Genesis)

Zombies seem to be all the rage right now. With the successful comic adaptation of The Walking Dead, World War Z, etc. Zombies are the popular thing! However, I really don't think there was a time where Zombies weren't popular. Night of the Living Dead made zombies pretty terrifying...you know what made zombies fun though? This game!

Games to Try Before You Die: Sim City (PC, SNES)

At some point in time, when this game came out...everyone went from "I want to be a Firefighter dad!" to "I want to be a city planner dad!" I'm not really sure how many people became city planners because of this game, but there has to be at least one or two. Who would have thought that adjusting city tax, building residential and commercial zones, would be fun? Well it was, and still is.

Games To Try Before You Die: Super Mario 3D World

Yes...I know...this game is barely 2 weeks old, but it had to be mentioned. I have owned a WiiU for about 3 months (I think...) now and I have loved the system since I got it. I have mentioned many times, "Try before you judge" on this system, and I still stand by that statement. I've been waiting for a REALLY GOOD game to stumble upon this system...and that has happened.

Games to Try Before You Die: Legend of Zelda-Wind Waker (Gamecube/WiiU)

Recently I bought a Nintendo WiiU...so far, the game console is really fun! I really only have one game for the thing, but it has been around for quite a few years now. Zelda has always been some of the most top notch games in gaming history (Ocarina of Time being my favorite), and many people saw this game originally and though, "WTF?!?!" Until they played it...

Games To Try Before You Die: Super Mario Bros. (NES)

I have been doing these GTTBYD posts for quite some time now, and I never even thought about posting this one. THE GAME THAT STARTED IT ALL! Well, it didn't really start 'it' all but it did create a international icon and changed the way gaming was played forever. When you got your NES game console, you were treated with Duck Hunt and the classic...Super Mario Bros.

Games To Try Before You Die: Q-Bert (Arcade/Atari/etc.)

In the 1980's, video games only required 2 people to program a single game. Nowadays, they require a team of over 1000 to produce one game! The cool thing though about a single programmer, is that they can come up with some weird stuff. Like a fluffy ball thing with legs and a large tubular nose.

Games To Try Before You Die: Resident Evil 3 (PSX/Dreamcast/etc)

Resident Evil 2 is still my favorite RE game of all time, but 3 is a very close second. During the PSX era, there was a ton of amazing games coming out, and most of those today are considered classic games (I never want to think of something I grew up with as "classic")! Resident Evil 3 Nemesis is the last RE game on PSX, so how does it hold up?
