If there is such a thing as Canadian music royalty, we’re sure these two artists would qualify. Nickelback‘s Chad Kroeger has been in the studio co-writing songs with pop star Avril Lavigne.

Lavigne revealed the collaboration earlier this year with a tweeted photo of the pair getting very “huggy” in the studio. Now it appears as though the collaboration is evolving beyond just one song. Kroeger told Boston’s Mix 104.1, “We were just gonna [do a] couple of tunes. And then she wanted me to sing on one of them and then we just started flying on all these different songs.”

The Nickelback singer admits that the creative chemistry was immediate, explaining that “things just clicked real quick.” Kroeger says he was impressed by Lavigne and adds, “[She] has a lot of tricks in her arsenal.” He cited her ability to go from straight-up rock to rhythmically-oriented genres with ease. And he adds that she has other talents as well, laughing, “She can pound the vodka for a girl of her stature.”

At present, Chad says Avril is about eight songs deep into her new album. In addition to Kroeger, Avril has spent studio time working with former Evanescence member David Hodges.
