The confirmation hearing for Secretary of Education is going on right now, and Michigan's Betsy DeVos has been facing questions from a myriad of senators.

Tuesday, DeVos was asked about guns in schools - whether they should be there or whether they should not. While her answer started out just fine, it somehow veered off and ended with her saying that maybe we need guns in schools to protect the nation's children from bears.

Senator Chris Murphy (D) who represents a district that includes the town of Newtown, Conn., asked DeVos about guns, and initially she said, "I think that’s best left for locales and states to decide." Fair enough.

When Sen. Murphy pressed her further asking, "You can’t say definitively, today, that guns shouldn’t be in schools?”, DeVos had a rather odd response:

I will refer back to Senator Enzi and the school he was talking about in Wyoming. I would imagine that there is probably a gun in the schools to protect from potential grizzlies.

DeVos was referring to Sen. Mike Enzi of Wyoming who had previously mentioned Wapiti Elementary School, where they have protocols in place for when there are grizzly bears near the school.
