Spring is always a busy time of year for around-the-house projects and updates. Michigan residents have added incentive to make some changes as Consumers Energy is offering customers $15 - $50 for old appliances.

Consumers Energy says residential electric customers can receive $50 for each refrigerator or freezer and $15 for each room air conditioner or dehumidifier. The appliances must be working to be eligible.

Schedule an appointment to recycle your appliance here and Consumers Energy will come to your house and pick it up for free. Most pickups will be made within two weeks.

Getting rid of old appliances can be a lot of work and even cost money. The recycling program is a good chance to get cash and take the hassle out of moving the items out of your house, not to mention the money you can save by upgrading to something that runs more efficiently.

Consumers Energy expects to recycle over 20,000 appliances this year.
