A Whitehall man was injured after being struck with a sailfish by his girlfriend early Sunday morning, police say.

WZZM-13 reports the 61-year-old was sketching the mounted fish at a residence on Livingston Street. According to police, his girlfriend, 58, became angry and moved the fish.

When the woman left the room, the mount fell and broke. When she returned, she believed her boyfriend caused the damage. She began hitting him over the head with the fish and poking him with the fish's nose, cutting the man's hand.

Police say the couple had been drinking. The woman was not arrested at the time, due to health issues.

Muskegon County Prosecutors are reviewing the case.
