In order to keep postal and utility workers safe, a new proposed bill would put "dangerous" dogs or dogs who are biters on a registry list.

According to MLive, for a dog to end up on the list someone would have to file a complaint stating the situation and what made the dog dangerous or aggressive based on a list of behaviors. If the dog is deemed dangerous than it would be held by Animal Control until the court decides what happens next.

If a dog is seen as "potentially dangerous" than the owner would have to submit a letter to utility companies and the U.S. Post Office regarding their dog.

This bill would also hold the owner accountable if another incident occurs, potentially facing up to four years in jail. Ultimately, it is up to the courts to determine punishment.

In 2015, more than 6,500 postal workers, around the U.S., were bit by a dog. Detroit ranked #15 in the amount of dog bites (source: Detroit Free Press).

The bill still has to be voted on before it can move on.
