This weekend, one of the directors of these movies, Bruce Sinofsky, passed away after struggling with diabetes. Metallica has a nice story up on their website about Bruce,

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Bruce's family and friends. We will miss Bruce. A courageous man with deep empathy and wisdom who wasn't afraid to dig deep to tell the story.

RIP Bruce."

I don't know if you've seen the Metallica documentary, "Some Kind of Monster", but you really should. Not because it's Metallica, but because it's a really well-done movie. Even knowing how things turned out for the band, and their new-found happiness, it's a tense film!

The movie was the brainchild of two guys, Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky, who were known primarily at that point for the film "Paradise Lost", about the West Memphis Three; and "Brother's Keeper", about a murder in New York.

But when they got behind the camera for the Metallica documentary, they filmed probably the most tense and intense music documentary ever made.

When the movie came out, I'd already seen the band live in San Francisco, so you know how things turned out, but sitting there watching this movie, you still find yourself thinking, "How the f*** did they ever turn this around and get it back together?"

Seriously, 4 minutes into the film, the bass player has already quit the band!

He was a really great filmmaker.
