I knew this was going to happen, I really did.

When I saw Skylanders and Disney Infinity, I thought it was kind of childish. You buy the video game, then you have to buy toys to play the game! Well, they've got me there, that's pretty genius. Release one game and a bunch of toys to go with it, not a bad plan. I chose to ignore it.

Then, Nintendo jumped aboard the toy train.

When I purchased Super Smash Bros. WiiU, I saw my favorite Nintendo character Link (from Legend of Zelda) in Amiibo form. It was only $12, so why not? I bought the Amiibo and ever since, it's been the coolest little thing on my gaming rig.

The whole toy-plus-video-game thing never really connected with me until they put out these Amiibo things. The best part about them, is that they are not just specific to one game. I have been able to use my Link Amiibo on 3 different games! Super Smash Bros. WiiU, Mario Kart 8 and Hyrule Warriors!

I have unlocked costumes, built up a strong Amiibo on Smash Bros, and even unlocked a treasure trove of stuff on Hyrule Warriors.

On a normal game console, I would have to shell out at least $20 to unlock all of this stuff. With my little Link Amiibo, though, $12 and I get to have a cool statue thing!

If you think about it, it's a unique way of getting DLC. Even if you don't want to own these things, but borrow a friends Amiibo, slide it onto the Game Pad and there you go! FREE DLC!

So of course, what do I want for Christmas? AMIIBOS! Nintendo knows what I enjoy...even if it is a little childish.

It may be different from the other juggernaut gaming companies, but Nintendo seems to have something unique with these Amiibos.
