Before rocking the Intersection for their album release party tonight, West Michigan's own Pop Evil stopped by Fox 17 to talk about their new album Up!

The guys shared how the album came to be, talked about tonight's concert, and were surprised by a special guest: Mayor George Heartwell.

About the new album, Matt DeRito explained,

"The last album was called Onyx and there was a lot of angst and darker feelings that went into that... this album picks up where that one left off and it sort of like what happens after you get all these aggressive feelings off your chest and where do you go from there? The answer for us was Up."

Leigh Kakaty shared that tonight's concert at the Intersection will be streamed live by Yahoo:

"It's a chance for everyone that can't make the show to see the show and see us in our hometown where it all started, right here."

Mayor George Heartwell made a special appearance, saying:

"We are so proud of these guys here in West Michigan. We have a great, rich, deep history of artistic expression, and you guys represent the best of that. I understand you are ambassadors for Grand Rapids wherever you go in the world."

He then declared today, August 21, as Pop Evil Day in Grand Rapids!

Here is the official proclamation!:
