Marilyn Manson is a prolific guy. In addition to frightening parents in the '90s -- and more recently brewing up his elixir, Absinthe Mansinthe -- Manson was also a rock journalist. During that brief stint, he claims he coined the term 'grunge' in relation to a style of music.

In a recent interview, Manson told Noisey, "I hated rock and roll when I started. It was on the cusp of grunge and a lot of bands that I used to call 'commonist rock' because everyone wanted to be like the common man with the flannel shirts and Pearl Jam and their fight against Ticketmaster and all this horse s--t."

"Nirvana was different," he continued, "That was one of the bands I covered first as a journalist and I’m just going to go ahead and say I coined the term 'grunge' in a review of 'Bleach.' You’re welcome."

Manson's new album, 'The Pale Emperor', is set for release on Jan. 20. Check out the new song 'Cupid Carries a Gun' right here:
