How's this for the strange collaboration of the day: Marcus Mumford of folk-rock superstars Mumford and Sons has teamed up with pop giant Justin Timberlake to record the soundtrack for the forthcoming Coen Brothers movie 'Inside Llewyn Davis?' And while that pairing may sound odd, trust us, there's a logical reason for it: In addition to providing music, JT also acts in the flick, appearing alongside Carey Mulligan.

Still lost? Mulligan -- an actress known for her roles in 'An Education,' 'Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps' and 'Drive' -- is Marcus Mumford's wife.

Timberlake recently talked about the film and the soundtrack with Capital FM.

"OK I can tell you this. There’s a Coen Brothers film coming out soon that I was lucky enough to work with Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan," he said of the flick, which tells the story of a folk singer amid the '60s folk scene in New York City and is loosely based around the iconic Greenwich Village folk singer Dave Von Ronk.. "And coincidentally I did work with Marcus Mumford on the soundtrack, so I became very good friends with them."

"Marcus and myself we all kind of worked on the music together and I don’t know any other world where we would have the opportunity to collaborate like that but it was so much fun," he added. "So not only will that be a great movie, but the music to it will be fantastic.”

'Inside Llewyn Davis' is expected to hit screens next year.
