GRPD are investigating a shooting that occurred early Wednesday morning on Grand Rapids West Side.

WZZM-13 reports that the shooting happened around 4:25a.m. at the corner of Fulton Street and Gold Avenue. 

According to police, the victim heard a knock on the door and was confronted by three people in masks. He attempted to defend himself with a machete and was shot several times.

The 20-year-old victim was taken to the hospital and is expected to live.

Police have not said if any arrests have been made.
