We've heard a story like this before.

On Seinfeld, Kramer and Newman famously used a mail truck to bring returnables from New York to Michigan.

Today, Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette has announced that a Flint man has plead guilty to returning 10,000 or more out-of-state non-returnable beverage containers.

The man owes Michigan $400,000 in restitution.

70-year-old John Custer Woodfill entered his guilty plea in the Genesee County 7th Circuit Court in Flint on Monday, March 20.

From April 2012 to April 2015, Woodfill worked with a partner in Indiana who is now deceased. They bought uncrushed non-returnable cans in Indiana as scrap metal for 60 to 80 cents per pound. The cans were brought to Flint in a trailer where they were returned in automatic return machines. Some cans were given fake labels to trick the machines.

Woodfield is scheduled to be sentenced on Tuesday, May 2.

This wasn't the first time someone attempted to pull this Seinfeld-like stunt in real life and it probably won't be the last. If you must attempt some Newman-inspired shenanigans, try something that won't get you arrested.
