Man Drowns in Jordan Lake in Barry County

There was a tragic ending to the weekend Sunday night in Barry County where a 57-year-old man's body was pulled from Jordan Lake.

According to WWMT, sheriff deputies were contacted for the rescue of a man by the name of Scott Alan Whitford who had disappeared in the water near 7:30 p.m. in the 800 block of Beech Street.

Witnesses said they heard Whitford calling for help when he began to go under water. An area neighbor said he tried to go out and rescue him.

Woodland firefighters did find Whitford about 60 feet from shore in around 7 feet of water. Rescuers did try and revive the man with CPR but it was too late. Whitford was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses say they still don't know what made Whitford go into the water and then to the deeper water.

Deputies are still investigating the incident.
