A 71-year-old farmer in Lowell was killed Wednesday after being attacked by an animal on his farm.

FOX-17 reports that the Kent County Sheriff's Department were called to the farm near Morse Lake early Wednesday afternoon.

A neighbor, who owned the bull in question, called police after witnessing the attack.

When police arrived, they found the bull in the driveway, and the elderly farmer on the ground. The bull was agitated and would not let police get to the victim.

The officers shot 33 rounds from their shotguns at the bull before it was taken down. FOX-17 reports that all 33 rounds hit the animal.

The farmer was pronounced dead at the scene.
