Leaving Pets in a Hot Car Could Soon Lead to Felony Charges in Michigan
Two Michigan lawmakers have introduced bills that would make it a felony to leave your pet in a hot car causing death.
Sen. Rick Jones and Sen. Curtis Hertel recently introduced the bills.
Under the bill, offenders wouldn't be charged immediately with a felony if their pet survives being trapped inside of a hot car.
If you leave a pet in a car and it is suffering, it could lead to a $350 fine and a misdemeanor charge, if the pet is severely injured it would be a $1,000 fine and a misdemeanor, if the pet dies the charge rises to a felony.
Further discussion on the bills is expected to happen later this month.
