Lance Armstrong to Ride in Kalamazoo in Honor of Those Injured and Killed
An honor ride will be held in Kalamazoo tonight and dedicated to the nine people injured or killed a week ago. It will be attended by world renowned cyclist Lance Armstrong.
According to WWMT, Armstrong will be joining bicyclists from the Chain Gang for a 6:30 p.m. departure on Tuesday from the Kalamazoo County Health Services parking lot.
They are setting out to finish the ride that the group started last Tuesday night before they were mowed down by a pickup truck driven by Charles Edward Pickett, Jr. of Battle Creek.
Pickett has been charged with five counts of Second Degree Murder, and four counts of Reckless Driving Causing Serious Impairment
The 28.5 mile ride will travel north to Plainwell and back. Members of the public are invited to participate as well.
It has been a tough week for America. So senseless and so shocking. My thoughts are with everyone during this tragic time. I'm headed to Kalamazoo tomorrow to be with the Chain Gang to honor the 5 cyclists who lost their lives in Kalamazoo last week and #finishtheride. The gang and I will keep their Tuesday evening tradition going and not let this awful tragedy stop us from doing what we love to do and that's to be out on our bikes. I did not know these people. I had never heard of the Chain Gang Club. But I know that fear. That fear of bike vs motorist. I think all of us know that. I'll be there to show solidarity and support for them and their entire community. Feel free to come along, everybody is welcome.
Went for a run this morning. Couldn't shake my feeling of incredible sadness thinking about yesterday's unimaginable tragedy in Kalamazoo. While I was running I was listening to @ryanbingham_official's station on Pandora. "Yesterday's Blues" came on – summed it up for me. To the ones lost – may you rest in peace. To their friends, families, teammates, partners – my deepest condolences.
