Kix Releasing First New Album in 19 Years
Kix have been back together since 2003, but haven’t released a studio album since 1995′s ‘Show Business.’ They put out a live album/DVD in 2012, and now have signed with Loud & Proud Records to release an as-yet-untitled album on July 22.
“The boys and I are so happy that our old friend, Tom Lipsky, has invited us to join the Loud & Proud family,” says frontman Steve Whiteman. “We worked with Tom and Madelyn Scarpulla on our last studio album ‘Show Business,’ and we’re looking forward to working with them again with the release of the first new Kix album in almost 19 years! We’ll still be coming to a dump near you very soon!”
Kix got their start in the early ’80s, and had a lot of success with 1988′s platinum album ‘Blow My Fuse’ and its 1991 follow-up ‘Hot Wire.’ The single ‘Don’t Close Your Eyes’ was a mainstream radio smash, nearly cracking the top 10. They had a string of rock radio singles as well, including ‘Cold Blood,’ ‘Blow My Fuse’ and ‘Girl Money.’ Check out the ‘Dont’ Close Your Eyes’ and ‘Cold Blood’ videos below.
“His project at the time was Funny Money, and they were playing at the Tourist Inn in Hallam, Pennsylvania,” Hale recalls. “We used to play there all the time. We ended up opening for them. I’m an ‘80s head. I’m a child of the ‘90s, but my heart is very much in the ‘80s, so I knew who Kix was, and I was really excited to play for him. I was amazed that he sounded the same as he did in his 20s. I asked him if he could give me some pointers. I had never really warmed up before. I didn’t know what that was.”
“He said that he had a space at Marty’s Music Store in Harrisburg and asked me if I wanted to come down and he’d show me some stuff,” Hale continues. “I went there every single Thursday for like the next two years. He showed me what I had and how to use it; how to project my voice and how to breathe right, all the basics. I owe what I can do every single night to that guy.”
The band has some shows coming up, including Rocklahoma. For all the dates, go here.
