Killswitch Engage are gearing up to release a new album and singer Jesse Leach reveals in a new interview, "It's probably the most difficult record I've had to write."

Speaking with Louder Sound about the upcoming release, Leach divulged that he intends to tackle the subject matter of mental health during the upcoming release, something that he's dealt with personally. “Going forward, I’m going to be doing a lot of promotion to raise mental health awareness. It’s something that’s very near and dear to my heart, so I’ll be doing as much as I can to advocate for that and use my soapbox to speak out and keep that conversation in the forefront,” says the singer.

The vocalist also reveals that subjects such as the state of the world and our country have found their way into the lyrics, though maybe not too directly. "There’s some angry, political stuff, but written in such a way that it’s not going to overwhelm the listener. It’s written poetically; I’m being ambiguous with it, because I’d rather it read like a story than a direct statement," says Leach, adding, "There’s a lot of heavy themes lyrically – I’d even go so far as to say it’s probably the most difficult record I’ve had to write, because it comes from such a dark, angry place."

Speaking just before the turn of the year about their recently completed disc, Leach told fans on social media, "The sheer amount of material, my vocal surgery, depression, anxiety and full on mental breakdowns all contributed to the painstaking process." He went on to add,  "I believe the album has something for everyone who is a fan or digs what Killswitch is known for. I personally leaned a bit more on the heavier side of things, but we’ll see what makes the album when all is said and done. I’m looking forward to 2019 more than words can express. It’s been a super hard year for me personally as well as this album just haunting my thoughts and daily meditations. If nothing else I’ve given everything I have to this album. I truly hope my words on this piece of music are therapeutic, motivating and perhaps even inspiring for some of you out there. I know music is a huge part of my therapy and my life’s blood so it would be an honor to help anyone in anyway with the music we make."

Leach recently revealed that he was stepping away from social media for a bit while he sought help before sharing more of himself personally with fans.

No official title or release date has been announced for the new Killswitch Engage album, but the record is expected to arrive in 2019.
