Kent County Sherrif’s Department is gearing up for their next Citizen’s Police Academy which begins meeting Wednesday nights from 6:30 to 8:30 in September.

The course is a 13-week course which is designed to “develop and enhance citizen awareness and understanding of the police role in the community”. According to accesskent.com, the course is meant to give attendees a realistic look at what it’s like daily for police officers.

Topics presented include:

  • “Meet the Sheriff”

  • Tour of the Court House

  • Marine Unit & Dive Team

  • Tour of the Mounted Unit

  • 911 Communications Center

  • Tour of the Correctional Facility

  • Criminal Investigations

  • Crime Scene Processing and Forensics

  • Patrol Operations

  • K-9 Unit

  • Vice

  • TAC

  • Use of Force Training

  • Traffic Stops

If you’re interested in joining the upcoming Citizen’s Police Academy, you just have to be at least 21-years old, with no prior felonies ever or misdemeanors in the last 3 years. You also must live or work in Kent County. The course is free if you’re selected.
