The trial for the accused Kalamazoo shooter, Jason Dalton, was scheduled to start on Tuesday, Jan. 8, but that will no longer be happening.

Monday morning, Dalton's defense attorney Eusebio Solis announced in court that they would be rescinding their insanity plea, and that Dalton would be pleading guilty to all counts, "against the advice of counsel."

Dalton was charged with six counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder for the shooting spree on Feb. 20, 2016.

As the result of the guilty pleas, Dalton will be spending the remainder of his natural life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Dalton told the judge that he had wanted to change his plea to guilty for some time. His lawyer told the court that Dalton decided to make the decision the plead guilty to spare his family and the victims' families from the trauma of a trial.
