County Health Rankings annual report examines a variety of health measures across the country. This week, we are taking a closer look at what the report has revealed about West Michigan.

The report found that the ratios of population to primary care physicians in Ionia County and Allegan County are among the highest in Michigan.

The report found the ratio by defining primary care physicians to "include non-federal, practicing physicians (M.D.'s and D.O.'s) under age 75 specializing in general practice medicine, family medicine, internal medicine, and pediatrics."

Presque Isle County has the highest ratio at 6,531:1. Allegan County is fourth at 4,168:1. Ionia County is tenth at 3,204:1.

Washtenaw County's ratio is the lowest at 579:1.

The statewide average is 1,240:1.
