We just learned the sad news of the death of Ian McLagan, legendary keyboardist for the Faces and the Small Faces, today (Dec. 3). This follows earlier news of the rocker being admitted to an Austin, Texas hospital in critical condition after he suffered a stroke.

McLagan’s career began in the early ‘60s in England, and by 1965, he was playing with the Small Faces.

In 1969, Steve Marriott quit the Small Faces, and Rod Stewart and Ron Wood joined the band and renamed themselves the Faces. With Stewart and Wood on board, they would keep rocking up until their ’75 breakup.

In addition to his iconic run with the Small Faces and the Faces, McLagan also found himself playing with Chuck Berry, Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen -- and he was also a longtime sideman with the Rolling Stones, as Ultimate Classic Rock reports.

Two years ago, McLagan was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the Small Faces and the Faces. Diffuser would like to extend our condolences to McLagan’s friends, family and bandmates from throughout the years.
