Now, that is a tasty sounding headline.

Why the folks in Hamburg Township, Michigan went for doughnuts and not hamburgers, I'm unsure, but they sure did a heck of a job lining up 24,000 doughnuts to go after the existing Guiness World Record for longest doughnut line!

The Detroit Free Press Reports that Friday morning 100 volunteers started lining up the thousands of doughnuts, which were donated by Meijer.

The record breaking attempt was part of a celebration of 10th anniversary of the Hamburg Enhanced Recreation Organization (H.E.R.O.) and the festival it sponosors, the Hamburg Fun Fest, which is going on now.

The current doughnut line record is 1,841 feet 10 inches, which was achieved by Friedrichstadt-Palast in Berlin, Germany, on April 27, 2014.

So how did Hamburg do?

"The early estimate was 2 miles, 750 feet," Joanna Hardesty, president of H.E.R.O said.

Given that there's 5,280 feet in a mile... yeah, I'd say they smashed that world record!

Now they just have to wait for the verification process and for Guinness to announce the new record set at Hamburg Fun Fest.

If you're thinking, yeah, that's cool, but that's a lot of doughnuts to waste.... well, they weren't wasted! After their record breaking line, the doughnuts served one last purpose: feeding local farm animals.
