On Sunday, Grand Rapids Public Schools were made aware that a teacher at Kent Hills Elementary is accused of assaulting a second-grade child.

According to Fox 17, the school was placed on lockdown Monday morning after a disturbance caused by parents.

John Helmholdt, the spokesperson for the district, says GRPS was was in the process of placing the teacher on paid administrative leave Monday morning, when the parents arrived.

According to Helmholt, the parents used threatening and inappropriate language in front of students.

He did not comment on whether the district will press charges against the parents who caused the disturbance.
