A scary night early Sunday Morning when a Grand Rapids apartment building caught on fire around 1:45 am, according to the GRFP Facebook post.  The fire department says it was called out to a fire in an apartment building on the 2200 block of Valleywood Dr SE.

Numerous units from Grand Rapids and Kentwood fire departments responded.  The GRFD Facebook post says that when the first fire truck arrived, there was visible flames and people waiting to be rescued.  WZZM reports that GRFD rescued 7 people that were waiting on a balcony outside.

Two of the people rescued were sent to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and because of the severity of the fire, several occupants are now homeless and being assisted by the American Red Cross.
