On January 1st, 2013 the NHL's annual Winter Classic will take place at Michigan Stadium as the Detroit Red Wings will face the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Yesterday, the Michigan Legislature approved the sale of alcohol at the game, meaning fans might not feel the need as much to sneak a flask into "The Big House" like so many do on Saturdays in the fall.

The game is expected to break the Guinness World Record as the most-attended hockey game in history.  The current record of 104,173 was set in 2010 when Michigan hosted Michigan State at the same site.

With the sale of alcohol, a new record could also be set for the most drunk people ever at a hockey game.

The NHL made alcohol sales a condition for holding the event at Michigan Stadium.  Afterall, who wouldn't want a nice cold beer while you're freezing your ass off at an outdoor hockey game in January?
