There is no college or university in the country that owns a brewery... until now... and it's right here in Grand Rapids!

Grand Rapids Community College is set to debut Fountain Hill Brewery and Peter's Pub today (Friday, 9/23). According to GRCC's website they are the first college that is licensed to own and operate a brewery. The brewery is part of the culinary program and is for students who wish to get a certificate in Craft Brewing, Packaging and Service Operations.

Being that its "Beer City USA," many people will be going into the field that deals with brewing beer or actually running one. This will give students a hands-on experience with that very thing. Think of it like a science lab but for beer! The beers currently on tap, were made with the help of the students.

The cool thing is the money made goes back to operating the brewery and the tips goes towards scholarship programs.

Fountain Hill Brewery is located on the first floor of of the Wisner-Bottrall Applied Technology Center on Fountain street. It will be open to the public two days a week, Thursday and Friday from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. It will only be open during school season.

Peter's Pub will also be open in conjunction with the brewery.

WOOD-TV was able to take a tour of the new brewery which you can watch below.
