I'm not big on shoveling snow. Well, who is really? Anyone who says they love it is a liar. Just like people who say they "loooovvve" winter. Liars. Stop it.

Anyway. I don't even own a proper shovel. What do I do when snow piles up in my driveway? I attempt to drive over it. Or I get stuck. No, it's not a great system. But man, I really hate shoveling. Good thing I'm not a property owner then. Because in Grand Rapids they can  fine you if you don't shovel your sidewalks. I'd owe, like, so much money.

According WZZM-13, in regard to the massive amount of snow that's fallen since Monday, the City of Grand Rapids is starting to enforce the "winter sidewalk ordinance".

Which is what?

Well, City ordinance requires property owners to clear snow and ice from their sidewalks within 24 hours of a snow or ice storm.

And, if you don't, people can rat you out by filing a complaint at www.grcity.us. or by calling 311.

If you get cited for non-compliance, you have 48 hours to clear the sidewalk. If the sidewalk remains in violation, a city contractor will clear the sidewalk and the property owner will be charged a $95 administrative fee plus a $25 per hour labor fee.
