Grand Rapids Rocks- Oceans Over Earth

I love Grand Rapids and all it has to offer with local music, so I decided why not feature local bands here on wgrd.com! Todays featured band is Oceans Over Earth, they answered a few questions for me below! Check them out, and if your in a local band and want to be featured then answer the same questions and email them along with a video to Jackie@wgrd.com

Who are all the members of your band, and what do they play?

Jordan Adam (vocals), Andrew Lidgard (lead guitar), Eli Ames (rhythm guitar), Corey Crawford (drums) and Mike Bergsma (bass)

When did the band get together, and how?
Me (Andrew) and Jordan decided we wanted to start a band around fall time of 2010. We wanted to take our passion for music and make it our own creation. We had to find other members especially drums which are IMPOSSIBLE to find these days. There are guitarists left and right but no drummers. After trying out drummers from my school I decided to put up an add on craigslist. What could it hurt right? Then Corey called me and said he would love to be our drummer. We went to Coreys house out in Howard City and he played some of the best drums I have ever heard. He blazed through songs from August Burns Red who have one of the most technical drummers in my opinion. Even though we are a Grand Rapids found band, driving out to Howard City for practice is well worth it for that guy. Then Mike joined the band as second guitar for a while and we played some shows without a bassist. Including our first show ever which was at the Intersection in front of 500 or so people. Then a couple months later Mike quit and we had to find another guitarist and got Eli who is an amazing guitarist. Later Mike wanted to come back and be our bassist and then the whole band was formed!

How would you describe your music to someone?
Deathcore/Metalcore if we had to put ourselves into a genre. But I normally just tell people we are heavy without any clean vocals. And then I let them listen and decide for themselves. Every ones opinions are different on music.

Who are some of the bands that influence your music? The bands that influence me personally would have to be August Burns Red, Bring Me the Horizon (old), Chelsea Grin, As Blood Runs Black, The Devil Wears Prada, Haste The Day, I the Breather, and Parkway Drive to just name a few. The band shares a few of these as a whole but I cant really say what influences our music without asking the guys personally.

What other bands have your members been/are in? Corey Crawford is the only member who has been in a different band. He use to be in Darkened By Reason who almost got signed to a major label, and then they broke up shortly after for reason I don’t want to say without his approval.

What other local bands would you recommend people check out?
Our brother locals would have to be Divided They Fall and Hand of Uziel. Definitely give them a listen!

Where is your favorite place to play in Grand Rapids?
Our favorite place use to be MXTP. It was such a fantastic venue and brought some of the coolest shows we ever played, Big names like The Plot In You, Within The Ruins, Inhale Exhale just to name a few that stood out to me.

Where can we catch you performing next? Right now we are taking time off from shows to really crack down on writing our EP which will be out this summer with 7 brand new tracks from us! So keep an eye out! This EP has been taking us almost a year to write, we want it to be perfect for you guys.
