Praised for its craft beer scene and recently named the best food city in Michigan, Grand Rapids is now being recognized for its pizza!

Finance website, SmartAsset has included Grand Rapids in its Top Ten Best Cities for Pizza Lovers in the U.S. list., MLive reports.

To conduct their study, Smart Asset compared data from 137 cities, looking at the average rating of pizza places, pizza places per 100 residents, percentage of great pizza places, and cost of living.

SmartAsset found Grand Rapid to be No. 9 in the U.S. for pizza lovers!

Here's their praise for GR:

During the gloomy winter months, Grand Rapids can lean on its pizza to help keep away the winter blues. Grand Rapids is in the top 25 for both average ranking of pizza places and percentage of great pizza places. One thing that may concern pizza lovers  in Grand Rapids is that there are only 9 pizza places per 10,000 residents."

You'll notice their list doesn't include what many consider the pizza capitals of the U.S.: New York and Chicago. SmartAsset says the reason is that there are so many other food options in those cities, that it's difficult to compare with the ones on the list in terms of pizzerias per resident.

SmartAsset also found that college towns did really well in the study:

Perhaps it is unsurprising that if you want to eat a lot of cheap pizza you should go to college towns. It turns out that a lot of the college town pizzerias are also pretty good. South Bend, IN and Springfield, MO had the 9th and 7th highest percentages of great pizza places. "

Here's the cities who did make the cut:

  1. South Bend, Indiana
  2. Des Moines, Iowa
  3. Knoxville, Tennessee
  4. Springfield, Missouri
  5. Carlsbad, California
  6. Davenport, Iowa
  7. Dayton Ohio
  8. Chattanooga, Tennessee
  9. Grand Rapids, Michigan
  10. Cape Coral, Florida
