UPDATE: GRPD said in a press release they have arrested five suspects in connection with the assault: four juveniles and one 17-year-old.

Earlier this week, police asked for the public's help identifying the people caught on video in an assault downtown Grand Rapids.

GRPD is now saying they have identified several of the attackers, WZZM-13 reports.

The assault happened around 10:15p.m. July 28th near Monroe Avenue and Louis Street, by Rosa Parks Circle.

In the video (below) a group of people can be seen punching and kicking a man who passes by.

Police now say the identities of some of the attackers are now known, and the video has been sent to the Kent County Prosecutor to review.

According to WZZM-13, Sgt. Terry Dixon said,

"If you watch the video from beginning to end, you can hear them laughing and you can hear different voices in the video. Police have not yet determined a motive for the attack. The victim is an 18-year-old white man, and the attackers appear to be black. So, if this is anything more than an assault, for example ethnic intimidation or a hate crime, we need to investigate that. We are looking at the evidence available to us right now."

The victim initially refused medical treatment, but was later treated for a concussion.

No arrests have been made so far.
