The Grand Rapids Police Department is assigning a mobile unit to the intersection of South Division and Hall Street near Chicken Coop, where an early Sunday morning murder occurred.

WZZM-13 reports that GRPD will have a noticeable presence outside the Chicken Coop this weekend, especially after bars close at 2 a.m.

Around that time is when the restaurant fills up with people looking looking for food in the late night/ early morning hours.

In the past, that's the time that fights and shootings have happened. WZZM-13 reports that the shooting Sunday is at least the third at the Chicken Coop in the past year and a half; other shootings occurred in Sept. 2014 and Oct. 2013.

Starting Friday night, GRPD is parking a mobile command post at the intersection, with lights, cameras, and extra officers in an effort to deter future problems.

According to WZZM-13, police chief David Rahinksey said,

"It's amazing the crowd that it draws on a Friday or Saturday night at quarter to three in the morning. In light of the recent tragic incident we will be out there in greater numbers. The command post will be staffed with personnel so not only will we have equipment out there, we will have people out there. We have Homeland Security, lighting, and cameras and we intend to deploy those in the area this weekend as well, so we will have an expanded footprint."

Chief Rahinsky says he wants to arrange a meeting with the Chicken Coop owner to discuss managing crowds during those early morning hours.

He also says they are still looking for the gunman who shot and killed Terence Hollis, 32, outside the restaurant early Sunday.
