Grand Rapids' first female Mayor, Rosalynn Bliss, has been named one of Crain's Detroit Business' "100 Most Influential Women", Fox 17 reports.

The Detroit-based publication has been honoring women in metro Detroit for nearly 20 years; this year, they are honoring women statewide.

Crain's Detroit Business explains that nominations for the "100 Most Influential Women in Michigan" list come from readers, editors, and reporters. Then,

 

Selections were determined in-house by top editors and the publisher. We looked for: impact (women who manage big budgets, big teams or big civic initiatives); diversity (ethnicity/race/age, industry and geography); proven leadership, from business, academia and from civic, nonprofit and public policy organizations. "

Recently Mayor Bliss spoke at the Grand Rapids Community College Class of 2016 graduation.
