Thieves stealing mail on Grand Rapids' West Side got a real surprise: packages full of dog poop.

Fox 17 reports that GR resident Keith Brown had had enough of scum bags robbing front porches in his neighborhood, so he enlisted the help of his Pit Bull Bella for some payback.

When two phone cases went missing of Brown's front porch on Hamilton Avenue, he thought, "There's got to be a way to get these people back."

He says he feels lucky it was just two phone cases; Multiple thefts of mail, flower pots, lawn furniture and more have been occurring in the area.

So, Brown decided to do something about it, with the aid of his dog, Bella. For weeks he gathered up dog poop from his and his neighbor's yards.

He packaged up the crappy contents in decoy boxes and left them out for the crooks.

"Wanted to test and see if someone stole my packages, so for weeks I been gathering dog poop from my neighbors and my yard, well I boxed it up "real" nice and guess what?! Someone stole the dog poop in the middle of the afternoon!"

Sure enough, the thieves had made off with the packages of poop!

“You got what you deserved, you know?” said Brown. “I mean, people work hard for stuff, you know? You don’t steal. And I hope you got a handful of crap.”

Good for Brown! And while this is some pretty funny crap (literally), stealing mail is not a joke. Fox 17 reminds us that it's a felony offense punishable by up to five years in prison:

"Local authorities recommend delivering and picking up your mail in person if possible, asking a neighbor to watch out for parcels if you know you won’t be home, and having your items shipped to a retailer directly for you to pick up there. But above all else, when you see a package outside your door meant for you – take it inside immediately."
