Grand Rapids Isn’t That Fun of a City, Here’s Why
A list of ‘2018’s Most Fun Cities in America’ was released, and I admit, out of 182 cities, Grand Rapids didn't rank too badly, however, Beer City USA came in at #72 and I believe it deserves a little more credit.
WalletHub defined a “fun city” as “a place as one that packs a little bit of everything for everyone.” These things were broken down into three main categories:
- Entertainment & Recreation
- Nightlife & Parties
The results found that Las Vegas is the #1 most fun city, not a total shock considering it’s where people go to party and make bad decisions… which if you think about, isn’t always fun. Pearl City, Hawaii came in dead last.
But this is about Grand Rapids which ranked 98th in ‘Entertainment & Recreation’ 83rd in ‘Nightlife’ and 25th in ‘Costs.’ Really? That doesn’t make us sound fun at all.
So with that said, I’ve come up with a list of reasons why Grand Rapids is NOT fun:
Because who would want to walk around and see thousands of cool art pieces and sculptures that attracts people from all over the world?
Between the different restaurants, breweries, distilleries, mom-and-pop shops, food trucks, coffee shops, desserts, etc… how is one to choose what to eat and drink?! Not to mention the Bloody Mary bars that we're forced to choose from for Sunday Funday.
Burgers and arcade games at Stella’s, catching a concert at 20 Monroe Live, a hockey game at Van Andel Arena, a broadway show DeVos Performance Hall, laughing hysterically at Dr. Grin’s, taking the kids to the museum. Yup, none of those sound fun. And that’s only a few things that will cause complete boredom.
Trails to walk and bike along, lakes and rivers to go fishing at, yoga on a beautiful day. And don’t get me started on the number of golf courses.
Asian Fest, Hispanic Fest, Greek Fest, Polish Fest, Irish Fest, Pride Fest. Diversity is so boring.
