"This was our true north during the economic down turn, it gave us something to focus on. It helped us through the enormous amount of change, and change is difficult for everyone; even firefighters. This gave us something to rally behind and we are very proud of this achievement."

The Grand Rapids Fire Department is the only city fire department in Michigan to receive this honor--  GRFD has gained International Accreditation, WZZM -13 reports.

Joining the ranks of 216 fire departments world-wide, GRFD earned International Accreditation status by completing a multi-year evaluation of the department, and continuously improving work performance and streamlining of services.

Brad Brown, Captain of the planning division told WZZM-13,

This was our true north during the economic down turn, it gave us something to focus on. It helped us through the enormous amount of change, and change is difficult for everyone; even firefighters. This gave us something to rally behind and we are very proud of this achievement."
